Mengsel pieces are created by intentionally joining wild clays sourced from multiple regions. The materials are combined in a way that allows their distinct mineral compositions to remain visible after firing, producing unpredictable surface variation.
 
Because each clay body responds differently to heat, firing outcomes are uncertain and approximately half of the pieces do not survive the process.
 
A5 records one successful material convergence.
 
Natural variation in tone, pattern, and surface texture is inherent.

Installation
Drill a hole using a size 10 masonry bit to the depth of the fitting (mark the bit with tape for accuracy).
Keep the fitting attached to the orb. Insert into the hole, press flush against the wall, and twist to tighten. The internal fitting expands to secure the piece.
Orbs are interchangeable and can be replaced without removing the wall fitting.
